And yet another Xerocomus under Quercus ilex in a park. No signs of reddening in the context of the entire stipe and pileus. No blueining on touching the pores or cut the basidiocarp. There is a scent of something but I cant tell, like aromatic. Basidiocarps quite large 9 cm the largest one. Is X. subtomentosus a good option here. I have half the specimen in the desiccator and half for the spore print / fresh. Habitat match nicely - oaks in parks!

As in the most cases of your requests I have no clou… but I know from many posts and requests here in pilzforum, that it is neccessary, to cut xerocomus and others in this family straight through from top to bottom, sometimes there appear little red or orange spots. I see, that you cut off some slices from the bottom.

Imho, for X. subtomentosum the head is too red.

The distinct blueing might be lacking.

To look for tiny red dots in the stipe base, it might be more useful to cut the base in length or diagonal.
Those red dots also might be nearly invisible or lacking, as well as the blueing in cross section.
But Your collection looks a lot like Hortiboletus rubellus to me.
